ANNOUNCEMENTS

Attention AVC Bound Seniors: Below are the upcoming new Student Success Workshop (SSW) dates. You will need to attend a SSW before beginning classes at AVC. To sign up, see the announcement under “College & Career Happenings” in the KHS Bulletin online or stop by the College/Career Center.

 

Summer School Applications – Do you need to make up a failed class or improve a “D” You may want to attend Summer School. Applications for Summer School are available in Office 350 and the Guidance office for your convenience. The Summer session will start on June 29th and will end on July 26th.  Classes fill up quick so make sure to pick up your application today and return it promptly to make sure you get the class you need.  

 

Seniors in order to participate in Graduation you must have your Senior Code of Conducts turned in. See Ms. Wolfe in the Activities office during snack or lunch if you have any questions.

 

Athletic Packets and Clearances will not be available during class time. Please see Ms. Liz before school, snack, and lunch or after school for all your athletic needs.

 

Attention Seniors, have you ordered your Cap and Gown? Did you remember your tassel? Time is quickly running out, orders can only be made online at JOSTENS.COM. If you have any questions or trouble with ordering see Ms. Wolfe in the activities office as soon as possible.

 

Knight Hawk Ladies!  Give your prom dress a second life by donating it to the KHS Clothing Library.  Dresses collected will be loaned to girls who are unable to purchase their own prom gown next year.  All donations should be delivered to room 129.  Community service hours available by request.

 

Seniors: Thursday, May 18th through Friday, May 19th, all seniors will begin returning textbooks during their scheduled English Class.  Dates and times are posted on the Library doors and in every classroom. Be reminded that senior textbooks must be returned and all fines and fees paid no later than Friday, May 26th, to be able to participate in Graduation ceremony.    


All Students: Thursday, May 18th through Friday, May 26th, all students will begin returning textbooks during their scheduled English Class.  Dates and times are posted on the Library doors and in every classroom.  Check with your English Teacher for your assigned return day.  Please return only the books you are no longer using.  All other books may be returned anytime beginning Tuesday, May 30th from 7:00am – 3:30pm.  Be reminded that for Senior’s, all textbooks must be returned and all fines and fees paid no later than Friday, May26th.   Students in grades 9-11 must have all textbooks returned by Thursday, June 1st in order to avoid late fines.  

Congratulations to our Lady Hawks Girls Softball on their win yesterday Way to be Hawksome! On to the next one!

Safe Rooms have long been established at KHS!  They are marked with stickers in the windows or on doors with the words Safe Room and Anti-bullying.  KHS Safe Rooms are open before school, at snack, at lunch, and after school.

COLLEGE & CAREER HAPPENINGS

Attention all Students! The 3rd annual “Back to School” event is scheduled for Saturday, July 22nd.  The sponsors will be giving away free backpacks, school supplies, dental screenings, physicals, and much more! Come by the Counseling Office for more information.  Last day to sign-up for this event is May 26th.

 

Students:  Do you want to attend AVC?  Are you considering it as a fallback?  If so, please stop by the KHS College/Career Center or the Guidance Office to receive help from an AVC Bridge Counselor

Students can now earn a transferable associate degree with guaranteed course availability with AVC2CSU. Programs in Business Administration, Sociology, Administration of Justice, Kinesiology, Political Science, and Psychology will begin in Fall 2017. Benefits include priority registration, dedicated educational advisors, faculty mentors, workshops, clubs and much more.  Applications are being accepted now and are available at the Information and Welcome Center (SSV Lobby).  First Tier Application Deadline: Friday, May 28th by 11 a.m. Application Packets will be reviewed and approved on a first-come first-served basis by the AVC2CSU Pathway Selection Committee. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS

The Antelope Valley Freethinkers have announced their second annual essay contest for college-bound seniors.  First place prize is $1,000, 2nd place is $500 and third is $250 for a winning 500-700 word essay on ”Being a Young Freethinker in the Antelope Valley”.  For more details, see Mrs. Centonze in the College/Career Center. July 1.

The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist seniors who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, critical financial need, pursuing a career or technical degree through a community college, and a desire to contribute to society. FINANCIAL AID FOR THE FUTURE

 

         

Attention Junior Athletes:  The Wendy’s High School Heisman Award honors both male and female high school seniors who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. You must have a “B” average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport as a senior. Class of 2018 athletes are encouraged to register NOW at www.wendysheisman.com. The first 1,000 applicants will win a Wendy’s gift card! State and national award recipients will receive prizes and a $500 gift card!
